健忠樓始建於1912年，建築面積約為500平方米，1938年諾貝爾文學獎得主賽珍珠女士曾居於此。2000年林健忠曉陽慈善基金會主席林健忠先生捐資整修，重現了其古樸典雅、富含文化底蘊的面貌，因此，南京大學將此樓命名為“健忠樓”。季羨林先生與林會長為忘年之交，破例第一次為樓題字。
